Remarkable race for Carlos Sainz in the Italian GP, albeit with no points

Sunday, 6 September 2026:
- Race: P13, 53 laps
- Carlos Sainz finished thirteenth in the Italian GP, a thrilling race that included a red flag in the second lap and a Virtual Safety Car, which compromised the race strategy.
- The Williams race driver made a great start on Soft tyres from the thirteenth spot on the grid, moving up to tenth in the first moments of the race.
- The Spaniard was not able to hold on to that position because he had deployment issues until the red flag that appeared following Leclerc’s crash. This meant he fell back to sixteenth.
- The team pitted him during Lance Stroll’s Virtual Safety-Car, which allowed him to overtake Esteban Ocon. That pit stop also created the conditions necessary to challenge and overtake Oliver Bearman in the closing laps.
QUOTES:
"First of all, happy to see Charles unharmed after such a big accident. On our side, we executed a good race today and a strong weekend overall given our limitations. We put together a solid qualifying yesterday and had a good start and race pace today. Boxing under the VSC got us ahead of Ocon with a great pit stop from our mechanics and good pace allowed to overtake Bearman at the end. I'm now very much looking forward to Madrid next weekend".
