Carlos Sainz maximizes his Williams FW48 in Monza Qualifying
Saturday, 5 October 2026:
- Free Practice 3: P16, 1:23.875, 28 laps
- Qualifying: P15, 1:23.453, 15 laps
Carlos Sainz set the fifteenth fastest time of the Qualifying session, but is set to start tomorrow from thirteenth due to other drivers serving grid penalties.
The Williams race driver fine-tuned the set-up of his FW48 this morning, which was key in making the cut in Q1 (1:23.616), which was a tricky endeavour despite the tow of his teammate Alexander Albon.
The Spanish driver found two tenths in Q2 (1:23.453), which allowed him to beat Haas’ Esteban Ocon and therefore maximize all the performance that his car had available in this racetrack.
QUOTES:
"We tried a few things yesterday and this morning, which got the car into a better place. We did all we could today and maximized the result. A clean lap in Q1 and a good lap in Q2 to be ahead of Ocon - meaning I'll be starting P13 tomorrow. Let's see what we can do tomorrow from there!".
