Carlos Sainz maximizes his possibilities in the Japanese GP

Sunday, 29 March 2026
- Race: P15, 53 laps

  • Carlos Sainz made the most out of the potential of his Williams FW48 in a Japanese GP compromised by a Safety-Car period and the constant overtaking due to energy management.
  • The Spanish race driver did another solid start which enabled him to move to fourteenth place up from sixteenth, although in the following laps he had an issue in the Overtake Mode, which was resolved later in the race.
  • Carlos extended his first stint until the Safety-Car period, which allowed him to jump from seventeenth to fifteenth. He defended that place in the second half of the race.
  • The Williams race driver feels he did everything he could and that the five weeks ahead until the Miami GP will pose a good opportunity to work flat-out to improve the car.

QUOTES:
“We got absolutely everything we could out of the car in the race today. Also, another solid start and good pitstop timing meant we did our best possible race, so I’m satisfied with that. The team and I are working well to understand this car and these regulations, and I feel like we’re going into this early break ready to make some real progress on the car's performance. We have to make sure we maximise these five weeks and head into Miami in a better position for the season ahead".

COMING UP:
Miami GP, Miami International Autodrome – 1-3 May 2026
