Solid Sprint and Qualifying on Saturday for Carlos Sainz at the Miami GP

Saturday, 2 May 2026:
- Sprint: P13, 19 laps
- Qualifying: P14, 1:29.568, 15 laps

  • Carlos Sainz achieved Williams’ best result in a Qualifying session marked by a very tight midfield in Q2.
  • The Spanish driver set the ninth fastest time in Q1 (1:29.540), while in Q2, he set a 1:29.568 lap compromised by some execution issues in which they will work together as a team.
  • Even though he could have set a faster lap and there were a handful of thousandths of a second to P11, Carlos confirms that the upgrades that the team has brought to Miami are a step in the right direction. He is focused on tomorrow’s race, which could be compromised by the risk of rain depending on the time the race starts. The risk of rain and thunderstorms still persist as of now for the scheduled time.

QUOTES:
“We were only 0.1s off P11, so it’s clear this Miami upgrade is a positive step for the team. We’re still getting to grips with the new package, and our execution has room for improvement, so there was some laptime left on the table. Tomorrow, we should be able to have some fun in the midfield and possibly be in reach of the points if the weather mixes things up".

“Lastly, it’s been sad to hear about the passing of Alex Zanardi today. He kept his sporting passion intact despite so many obstacles and he deserves a lot of respect and admiration from the motorsport community. My thoughts are with his friends and family".
