Carlos Sainz makes it again to Q2 in the Mexico GP

Saturday, 31 October 2026:

- Free Practice 3: P16, 1:19.214, 22 laps

- Qualifying: P16, 1:18.885, 18 laps

  • Carlos Sainz made it to another Q2 in the Mexico GP, where he beat his teammate once again in yet another weekend in which he has encountered the limitations of his car.
  • The Williams race driver used three sets of Soft tyres in Q1 to make the cut: he set a 1:19.283 on the first one, then improved to 1:18.559 on the second one and finally he clocked a 1:18.521 on the third.
  • In Q2, Carlos fought against faster cars than his and set a 1:18.885, compromised by the fact that he was on used tyres while his rivals still had fresh sets available.

QUOTES:

“We had the chance to get the car into Q2 today. We maximised what we had and took our opportunity, so we can be happy with that. Still, I didn’t feel as comfortable compared to yesterday and I was fighting the car a lot more than usual. We’ve been struggling with balance, and we overcorrected slightly with the setup changes we made. We have faster cars in front and behind us tomorrow, so it will be very tricky to get into the points, but we’ll try our best to put on a good show for these fantastic fans!”.
