Carlos Sainz finds the limitations of the FW48 on Friday at Barcelona

Friday, 12 June 2026:
- Free Practice 1: P13, 1:18.293, 27 laps
- Free Practice 2: P14, 1:17.020, 29 laps

  • Carlos Sainz has covered his Friday run plan at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he has seen that the FW48 will struggle to be competitive in this track due to its aerodynamic characteristics and the demands on the tyres.
  • The Williams driver has worked with the Soft and Medium tyres, which this season are one step softer than in 2025. They are prone to degradation due to the high temperatures at this time of the year.
  • Carlos is confident he can optimize the set-up of his car to unlock more performance for Qualifying.

QUOTES:
“A very tricky Friday. We know that this track exposes the weaknesses of this car, and over one lap, our pace is about where we expected to be in relation to the midfield. On long runs with high fuel we are significantly off the pace. All teams are struggling with degradation given the rough track surface and high temperatures, but we seem to be struggling more, which makes tyre management a challenge. There’s lots to look at overnight to get us in a stronger position for qualifying, so our focus will be on maximising the package we have in these conditions".
