Carlos Sainz retires in a chaotic Brazilian GP

Sunday, 3 November 2024
- Race: P16, DNF

  • Carlos fought hard to comeback from a Pit-Lane start in one of the most chaotic races of the season, despite not feeling comfortable in the rain with his SF-24. His Sunday came to an end in a crash.
  • He had qualified in thirteenth place, but the team opted to break the parc fermé to replace components of the power-unit and the gearbox and hence save the car from requiring any further changes in what’s left of the season.
  • The Spanish driver recovered up to thirteenth in very tricky conditions. The intensity of the rain changed constantly and danger was just around the corner.
  • On Lap 32, Carlos pitted during a Safety-Car period and switched to a second set of Intermediate tyres that should have brought him to the chequered flag. Moments later, though, the race was red flagged due to a crash and this played against his strategy.
  • Carlos’ Sunday came to a sudden stop on Lap 39, when he had a crash in the second sector due to aquaplaning. In that moment, he was running in thirteenth place.

QUOTES:
“Definitely a Sunday to forget for me. Sorry to the team for the extra work in a day that was already super long. I’ve struggled with this car in the wet this year, and today I just didn’t have the right feeling either. I tried to push and take some risks to gain positions and it obviously didn’t paid off. It’s a hard Sunday to digest but we will turn the page and reset everything ahead of Las Vegas".

COMING UP:
Las Vegas GP, Las Vegas Strip Circuit – 21-23 November 2024
