- Race: P1, 58 laps
- Carlos Sainz clinched his first win of the 2024 Formula 1 season in the Australian GP, which he led with authority from Lap 2 until the finish line.
- The victory of the Ferrari race driver is made even more remarkable by the fact that it happened just two weeks after the appendicitis surgery that kept him away of the Saudi Arabian GP.
- Second in the Starting Grid, Carlos stayed in the DRS of Max Verstappen during the first lap and managed to overtake him in the second one.
- The Spaniard went on to control the race following the retirement of the Red Bull car. He always managed to extend his runs more than his rivals to avoid being under pressure. He followed a two-stop strategy.
QUOTES:
“What a rollercoaster! I’m extremely happy! I felt good in the car right from lap 1 and after overtaking Max, when I was in free air, I started setting a strong pace that took me all the way to the finish line, bringing home the first win of the season. I’m also happy that George is OK after the heavy crash".
“The team deserves this one-two, we did a fantastic job all weekend, from FP1 to the last lap. We executed a perfect race, nailed the strategy and the mechanics were incredible delivering precise and quick pit stops every single time".
“Congratulations to everyone! Let’s carry this momentum to Japan! Vamos!”-
