Ferrari SF-23, Carlos Sainz’s new car for the 2023 Formula 1 season

The Spanish driver and his teammate took part in a shakedown in Fiorano that was broadcasted live to the world

Fiorano, (14 February 2023).

Carlos Sainz took part this Tuesday in the launch of the Ferrari SF-23, his new car for the 2023 Formula 1 season. The Spanish driver covered three laps around Fiorano in a ground-breaking event in the history of motorsport, as the Italian team shared the first steps of its new car live with its fans around the globe.

The shakedown of the SF-23 marks the beginning of the final countdown to the start of the 2023 World Championship. Today’s running, albeit symbolic, was also helpful to get a first glimpse of the car ahead of pre-season testing, which will take place in Bahrain from the 23rd to the 25th of February. One week later, from the 3rd to the 5th of March, the same scenery will see the maiden Grand Prix of the calendar.

The SF-23 is Carlos’ third car as a Ferrari official race driver, as he heads into his ninth Formula 1 season willing to fight for big results from the very beginning of the Championship. With the SF-23, the Scuderia returns to a traditional name for its car after competing last year with the F1-75 as a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the first Ferrari-badged road car.

The Ferrari SF-23 is also the first road car launched by Frédéric Vasseur as the new team principal of the Scuderia. The French engineer leads the ambition of the entire team to take another step forward in 2023 and fight for better results.

There is barely any track-time before the start of the season. Carlos will travel next week to the Sakhir International Circuit, which will host three days of winter testing from the 23rd to the 25th of January. This will be the only opportunity to work in the SF-23 before the start of the Championship. The Bahrain GP, scheduled for the 5th of March, will kickstart the longest season ever in the history of Formula 1.

"Having the chance to unveil the car in front of our tifosi has been great as this is my first launch event in front of an audience since I joined the Scuderia. I would like to thank everyone who has joined us on such a special day, both here and online around the world".

"This car is the result of the passion and hard work of everyone in the team during the past months and it certainly looks like another step forward. Our goal cannot be other than to keep pushing forward and trying to bring home more race wins, being competitive and fighting for the World Championships. I can’t wait to hit the track in Bahrain and get this new season going!".
