- Race: P7, 62 laps
- Carlos Sainz gained back some positions in the Singapore GP, a race in which it was difficult to overtake on track and strategy played a crucial role to move up the order.
- The Ferrari race driver did a good start from the dirty side of the grid, but then he had to make an evasive manoeuvre going into the first braking zone. The momentum he lost cost him two places in the following corners.
- His team reacted by pushing forward his one and only pit-stop to Lap 14, which enabled him to race on cleaner air and to make an overcut on all the cars of the midfield he had ahead of him. He moved up to sixth.
- In the second stint he passed several cars on track to move up to sixth, but ultimately, he had to keep his tyres alive for 48 laps and he let by his teammate, who had fresher tyres and could attack the cars ahead. Therefore, he crossed the finish line in seventh place.
QUOTES:
“Challenging race today. We took a risk by pitting very early, but we made it work until the end and gain some positions. We knew our pace was solid and I enjoyed some good overtakes on track. Damage limitation, but we leave Singapore with a sour taste. Now there is a gap to reset and come back stronger for the last races of the season. There are still a lot of points in play and we need to maximize every weekend".
