Carlos Sainz takes a resounding win in the Mexico GP

Sunday, 27 October 2024
-        Race: P1, 71 laps

  • Carlos Sainz clinched his second win of the season in the Mexico GP, where he showcased a really strong race pace and solid tyre management to control the race.
  • The Ferrari race driver started from pole position, but the ever-long main straight and the slipstream opportunities it presented meant he was down to second behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after the first meters.
  • Instead of falling behind, the Spaniard started applying pressure on Verstappen until he overtook him with a great move on the inside of Turn 1, on Lap 9.
  • From then on, Carlos’ rhythm was relentless as he grew the gap to Leclerc to 8 seconds and 14 seconds to Norris before the pit-stop.
  • In the second stint, the Ferrari race driver focused on managing his advantage until he crossed the finish line to clinch his second win of the year, the fourth of his Formula 1 career.

QUOTES:

“We knew losing a position at the start could happen but regaining it quickly by diving down the inside into turn 1 was the key to the race. From there it was all about managing tyres and pace, a very smooth operation until the checkered flag!”.

“This second win in a row is a further testament to the work the team has done in recent months, we are getting closer in the Construtors’ Championship and we’ll fight until the end as a team. Congrats to everyone! On to Brazil!”.
