Carlos Sainz clinches his third podium of the season in the Japanese GP

Sunday, 7 April 2024
- Race: P3, 53 laps

  • Carlos Sainz continues with his best start to the season in his career as a Formula 1 driver, now with a third-place finish in the Japanese GP. It is the third podium in three races for him.
  • Fourth on the grid, the Spaniard defended his starting position twice as the race was red flagged in the first lap due to a crash on track between two cars.
  • From that moment onwards, the Ferrari race driver displayed a great tyre management as he extended his stints to create a tyre delta that would enable him to attack McLaren’s Lando Norris, who started from third.
  • The strategy paid off and Carlos completed his rise to the podium with a great final stint on Hard tyres, overtaking first Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and then McLaren’s Norris, and finally his teammate Charles Leclerc.

QUOTES:
“It was a good day for the whole team. We executed a very solid race and brought home a lot of points, maximizing the potential of our package. A good couple of starts kept me in a good position and from there onwards we managed it perfectly with very strong pace with both compounds and good overtakings to make the strategy work. We obviously want to fight a bit further up, but if we keep pushing like this I’m sure we will have more opportunities. Now back to the factory together with the team. From tomorrow we’ll start preparing for China!”.
