Carlos Sainz, eighth in a difficult Dutch GP

Sunday, 4 August 2022
-    Race: P8, 72 laps

  • Two issues in the pits compromised Carlos Sainz's performance in the Dutch GP, where he initially crossed the finish line in fifth place.
  • The Spaniard of Ferrari was running in third place up to the first pit-stop, but after a late decision to stop he lost 10 seconds due to an issue on the rear left tyre.
  • When leaving the pits after his second stop, Carlos had to avoid a McLaren mechanic and thus the antistall kicked in. He received a five second penalty and, even though he crossed the line in fifth, he was dropped to eigth place.
  • Formula 1 returns next week with the Italian GP, at the heart of Ferrari, the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

QUOTES:
"Today we had a very tough race and things just didn’t went our way. The set up we went for didn’t worked as expected and after collecting some damage at the start with Hamilton we lacked a bit of pace overall. Obviously the late call of the first pit stop cost us a lot of race time and afterwards I got the penalty for unsafe release, even though there was nothing else I could have done in that situation as I was trying to avoid hitting a McLaren mechanic in front of me. Tough one, but we’ll now focus in the next race at home in Monza".

COMING UP:
