- Sprint: P2, 19 laps
- Qualifying: P3, 1:33.089, 12 laps
- Carlos Sainz will start from third place in the United States GP after a positive Qualifying in a really fruitful day.
- The Spaniard made it through Q1 (1:33.556) and Q2 (1:32.836) with a single set of new Soft tyres, saving two sets for the final round.
- His first attempt in Q3 (1:32.652) placed him third, three tenths short from provisional pole.
- The Spaniard was going faster on his second attempt, but there was a crash at the third sector and this brought out a yellow flag that prevented any further improving.
- In the Sprint, Carlos put together a masterful performance with three overtakes on track to move from fifth place on the grid to second at the finish line.
QUOTES:
“Overall it’s been a positive Saturday: we started out with a strong Sprint in which the car behaved very well and I was able to attack and move up three places. Then we switched to Qualifying in which we knew after yesterday we had to work a lot on tyre preparation. The first attempt in Q3 was good and the second one was even better as I was improving my time and potentially could have finished a bit further up. In any case P3 gives us the chance to fight with the guys ahead for tomorrow. It will be a very interesting and tactical race and we are ready for it".
