Carlos Sainz conquers pole position in the Mexico GP

Saturday, 27 October 2024
- Free Practice 3: P3, 1:16.832, 21 laps
- Qualifying: P1, 1:15.946, 21 laps

  • Carlos Sainz clinched an excellent pole position in the Mexico GP after putting together a perfect performance at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, carrying on the momentum he had ever since the first practice session.
  • The Ferrari race driver started the Qualifying session with the second fastest time in Q1 (1:16.778) and the third time in Q2 (1:16.515), always among the fastest drivers on track.
  • In Q3, the Spaniard went first after his first lap (1:16.055), which would have already been enough to secure the top spot. Still, he improved even further in the second outing and he was the only driver to break the 1:16 barrier, clinching his first pole of the year.

QUOTES:
“I’m super happy with today! I couldn’t imagine a better Qualifying here in Mexico. We have done a great job balancing the car and I enjoyed very much the last two laps of Q3, pushing in every corner and keeping it as clean as possible. I feel we have improved in tyre understanding and preparation and this helps to consistently drive to the limit. We are the only team with both cars in the first rows of the grid so the main priority for the race will be to score the maximum haul of points for the Constructors Championship. Even though it’s not easy at this track, I will do everything to defend pole at the start and we will fight with everything we’ve got to bring home another win!”.
