- Free Practice 3: P15, 1:19.293, 23 laps
- Qualifying: P2, 1:17.233, 17 laps
- Carlos Sainz set the second fastest lap-time of the Qualifying session for the Mexico GP, where Ferrari locked the front row of the grid for the first time this season.
- Carlos had to wait until Q3 to put together a representative lap, because traffic had been a constant struggle, both in the last practice session and at the start of Qualifying.
- The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:18.755) without any issues, but in Q2 his flying lap on new tyres was compromised by traffic. Thankfully, the time he had set on used tyres (1:18.382) was enough to move to Q3.
- In the last round, a great lap put the Spaniard in second place in his first outing (1:17.233), which ultimately was the best one. He was 67 thousandths of a second short from pole position and he is now in an interesting starting position for tomorrow.
QUOTES:
“Quite a strange qualifying session today, but mega result for the team! It hasn’t been the cleanest of weekends for us but in Q3 we managed to put everything together and consolidate a front row lockout for the race. Traffic nearly put me out in Q2, but the lap in Q3 felt good and this is a fantastic boost for everyone in the team, specially during this long triple-header”.
“We need to stay focused as tomorrow won’t be an easy race. Temperatures and tyre management will be key for us. However, we are in the best possible position to try to keep everybody behind. Let’s race!".
