- Free Practice 3: P5, 1:24.765, 14 laps
- Qualifying: P8, 1:29.294, 26 laps
- Carlos Sainz set the eighth fastest time in the Qualifying session of the Canadian GP, but he will start in eleventh place tomorrow following a penalty.
- There was no rain in Q1, but the track was still wet and this led to a rapid evolution of the track conditions. The Ferrari race driver made the cut on a single set of Intermediate tyres.
- Slick tyres made an appearance in Q2 and Carlos adjusted himself rapidly to the new conditions to access the final round.
- In Q3, though, the Spaniard could not set a representative lap time: the session was red-flagged following his first lap and, precisely then, it started to rain heavily. Nobody was able to improve their times any further until the end of the session.
QUOTES:
“It was a very tough qualifying. After the incident in FP3 the guys did an amazing job to rebuild the car and I managed to get my confidence back bit by bit in Q1 and Q2, putting some decent laps together".
"I was looking forward to pushing hard in Q3, but unfortunately the red flag and later the heavy rain meant we couldn’t improve our time and missed out on a better result. My starting position is not ideal but tomorrow we’ll try our best to make up some places".
