Carlos Sainz set to start third at the Canadian GP

Saturday, 18 June 2022
-    Free Practice 3: P10, 1:34.778, 18 laps
-    Qualifying: P3, 1:22.096, 29 laps

  • Carlos finished third in a tricky wet Qualifying session where it was really easy to make mistakes.
  • The Spaniard made it through Q1 (1:32.781) on Full-Wet tyres and in Q2 (1:25.197) he ran on Intermediates for the very first time.
  • Lap-times improved significantly due to the rapid evolution of the track and in Q3 Carlos set a 1:22.096 with the chequered flag waving in the air. He’ll therefore start tomorrow from the second row of the Starting Grid.
  • Even though the rain made an appearance today, the weather forecast suggests tomorrow it will be dry.

“Today we had good pace and overall it was a good Qualy given the tricky conditions. On the very last sector I felt it was a bit of an “all or nothing” situation and I over pushed the last chicane a bit too much. Unfortunately it cost me the front row, but I’m not too disappointed, as it was a great battle to the very last moment, I had to go for it, and P3 for tomorrow is not a bad starting position in this track".

“The pace has been there all weekend and tomorrow we’ll give it everything. It should be an interesting race and I really look forward to it”.
