Carlos Sainz saves a tricky Qualifying in the British GP

Saturday, 6 July 2024
- Free Practice 3: P4, 1:38.139, 23 laps
- Qualifying: P7, 1:26.509, 24 laps

  • Carlos Sainz will start the British GP from seventh place after a Qualifying session where his options were compromised by traffic on track in his last Q3 push lap.
  • Q1 started on a wet track and on Intermediate tyres following the rain that had fallen in the previous hours. Conditions changed and Carlos could run on slick tyres, making it through with a 1:30.557 lap.
  • In Q2, the track improved significantly as it dried up more and Carlos was the seventh fastest driver with a 1:26.843 in his last attempt.
  • In Q3, Carlos set a 1:26.509 in his first outing. He could not improve in the second one because he left the garage very tight on time and had to fight with track position with other cars, therefore compromising the temperature of his tyres.

QUOTES:
"I gave everything out there today but we knew Silverstone was going to be a tough track for us. The conditions were also very tricky so Quali today was even more challenging. In hindsight, I think we could have left the garage a bit earlier for the last run, as the outlap was messy fighting for position with other cars and tyres were not in the right window before the last push. Anyhow, we need to keep working to try and close the gap because our performance was not great overall".

"Still, points are given out tomorrow so I look forward to the race, which could be interesting with the weather".
