Carlos Sainz, fifth in a tough Qualifying at the São Paulo GP

Friday, 11 November 2022
-    Free Practice 1: P4, 1:12.039, 30 laps
-    Qualifying: P5, 1:12.357, 24 laps

  • Carlos clinched fifth place in the Qualifying session of the São Paulo GP. He could not maximize the Q3 due to a red flag and the arrival of the rain.
  • The session was compromised in its entirety by the weather. The track was wet at first but dried up by the end of Q2. Later on, though, the rain came again.
  • Carlos made it through Q1 (1:14.680) and Q2 (1.10.890) using a Soft tyre, and also made his way through a Q3 (1:12.357) that finished on Intermediate tyres.
  • Carlos’ fifth place is for the starting grid of the Sprint race, which will take place tomorrow. The results of the race will define the pecking order of Sunday’s Grand Prix, where the Spaniard carries a five-place penalty due to an ICE change.

QUOTES:
“Tough day for the team after a tricky qualifying. We had one shot in Q3 with the Softs as the rain was slightly delayed and we will be starting from P5 tomorrow. We will try to use the sprint race to gain some positions before serving the penalty on Sunday. Congratulations to Kevin and the entire Haas team for their first pole position".
