Carlos Sainz set to start Belgian GP from fourth place after a Qualifying with changing conditions

Friday, 28 July 2023
-    Free Practice: P1, 2:03.207, 9 laps
-    Qualifying: P5, 1:47.152, 23 laps

  • Carlos Sainz set the fifth fastest time in the Qualifying session of the Belgian GP, but this Sunday will start from fourth following a penalty to a rival.
  • The weather played a key role: the session was delayed 10 minutes due to the water on track and Q1 was run on Intermediate tyres, but the asphalt dried up and dry tyres appeared already in Q2.
  • The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:58.688) and Q2 (1:51.711) without any issues, and in the decisive Q3 (1:47.152) he fought for a place in the first row of the grid until he had to control a snap at Turn 8.

QUOTES:
"Tricky qualifying today with the changing conditions. Every time we were going out we found a completely different track. We managed to go nicely through Q1 and Q2 but in Q3 I didn’t put together my best lap, having a moment in T8-9 which costed me some positions. We’ll start P4 on Sunday, which isn’t bad, and anything can happen this weekend with the weather, so we’ll see what we can come up with for the race".
