Carlos Sainz seeks to improve after Friday practice in Abu Dhabi

Friday, 10 December 2021
-    Free Practice 1: P9, 1:25.886, 26 laps
-    Free Practice 2: P9, 1:24.844, 29 laps

  • Busy Friday at the Yas Marina Circuit, where Carlos didn’t feel comfortable in his Ferrari SF21 in any of the two opening practice sessions.
  • The changes done to the track, which has changed two slow-speed chicanes for two faster corners, don’t play in favour of the interests of the team.
  • In Free Practice 2, the only session to be held in the same conditions that are expected for the Qualifying and the race, Carlos paid special attention to the Medium compound. He covered 20 laps on that tyre.

“It’s been a challenging day here in Abu Dhabi with the new track layout and surface, making it very different to any other year we’ve driven here in the past. For us, it’s been a very difficult Friday because since FP1 I wasn’t feeling at home in the car and I’ve been chasing the balance the whole day. That’s quite unusual because we’ve been starting on the right foot pretty much every weekend and today I feel we have a lot of homework to do going into Saturday. We will now sit down with the engineers, see where we can improve the car and hopefully find more performance for tomorrow".
