- Race: P10, 76 laps
- Carlos Sainz scored a point in a Monaco GP that was compromised by the race strategy, as the drivers controlled their pace in order to make the two-stop strategy work without losing any track position, if it meant creating a traffic jam.
- The Spanish race driver started from eleventh place, but from the very beginning it became obvious that the driver running in fourth, Liam Lawson, was slowing down his pace in purpose so that his teammate could stop without losing any ground. This meant the Williams lost ground to the cars in front.
- Carlos ended up adopting the same strategy to help his teammate Alexander Rossi, who afterwards also helped him so he could do his two pit-stops and finish in tenth place.
QUOTES:
“Today is not how we want to go racing and I think the way us and other teams were able to hold up the pace and build gaps shouldn’t be what the Monaco Grand Prix is all about. We worked well as a team, but I understand the frustrations of the cars around us as we were victims ourselves. Looking at the positives, it’s another double points finish at a weekend that we struggled more than expected in Qualifying. We now head to Barcelona for the final round of the triple-header, so I’m really looking forward to racing in front of my home crowd and hope to share with them a good weekend!”.
