- Race: P4, 71 laps
- Carlos Sainz finished the Mexico GP in a hard-fought fourth place, in a race where the management of both the tyres and the temperatures was key.
- Second in the grid, the Ferrari race driver was down to third after avoiding a crash at the start that caused a Safety-Car period.
- Carlos committed to a one-stop strategy and he changed his tyres three laps before a heavy crash that ended up in a red flag.
- In the restart and the remaining laps, the Spaniard defended successfully from the attacks of Mercedes’ George Russell, who was on a softer tyre. Carlos crossed the finish line in fourth place.
QUOTES:
“It was a long and tough race today, having to manage tyres and temperatures constantly. Looking at the pace today I think the result is the maximum we could have achieved".
“Both the starts were quite chaotic, but we kept it together and stuck with our preferred strategy of doing one stop, which we had opted for before the red flag. In the end we scored some good points for the team and now we focus on the upcoming Sao Paulo race with the Sprint format".
