Carlos Sainz to start fifth in Austrian GP Sprint

Friday, 28 June 2024
- Free Practice: P4, 1:06.128, 31 laps
- Sprint Qualifying: 1’05.126, 12 laps

  • Carlos Sainz will start the Sprint of the Austrian GP from fifth place, after a difficult Sprint Qualifying in which he was one step behind the teams that fought for the pole position.
  • The Ferrari race driver made it through SQ1 (1:05.781) and SQ2 (1:05.435) on Medium tyres, as stated by the rules, before running on Soft in SQ3 (1:05.126). This was the least effective compound today in the SF-24.
  • Tomorrow, after the 24-lap Sprint, Carlos will have three hours to work on the set-up of his car before returning to parc fermé for Qualifying.

QUOTES:
“Not the best afternoon today. In terms of feeling SQ1 and SQ2 was quite decent with the medium compound. Then with the soft tires in SQ3 I think we saw a bit our weaknesses and finished P5. However, we still have time to adjust a couple of things here and there for tomorrow and hopefully have a better qualifying for the Grand Prix".

"Regarding the Sprint Race, we'll try to score as many points as possible and I'm confident we can do a good job there".

COMING UP:
