Carlos Sainz finishes second at the Monaco GP, scores his maiden Ferrari podium

Sunday, 23 May 2021
-       Race: P2, 78 laps

  • Carlos Sainz finished in the podium at the Monaco GP, where he was P2 after displaying a solid pace throughout the race. It was his third podium in Formula 1 and the first one he achieved with Scuderia Ferrari.
  • The Spaniard started from third following a technical issue on Leclerc’s car and moved up to second after Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas had a problem in the pits.
  • Graining on his front right tyre prevented him from pushing more for the victory, but he still crossed the line with more than ten seconds over his nearest competitor.

QUOTES:
“The first podium in a Ferrari is an incredible feeling that I will never forget, especially being in Monaco! We knew we had the chance and the pace to make it to the podium this weekend. We executed a flawless race. The bittersweet feeling is still there, though. I feel for Charles and for the team. All of us here at the track and back home in Maranello are working incredibly hard to be competitive and to make it our way back to the top. So it was very unfortunate that today we could not fight with two cars. On my side, I am obviously happy with P2 because I think it was the maximum we could achieve today from where we started. We need to keep pushing, because we are still missing the final step that we all want to make! FORZA FERRARI!”.
