Carlos Sainz finishes a challenging but positive Japanese GP

Sunday, 6 April 2024
- Race: P14, 53 laps

  • Carlos Sainz recovered a position and finished the Japanese GP in fourteenth place. The main factors of the race were the low tyre degradation and the difficulties in overtaking.
  • The Williams race driver started from fifteenth place and managed to run in ninth by extending his Medium tyre until Lap 33, in an effort to try and seize any situation that could take him back to the points.
  • Carlos switched to Soft tyres for the second run, in which he passed Liam Lawson, Nico Hülkenberg, and Jack Doohan on track to finish in fourteenth place. Most importantly, he left with a positive feeling and some lessons learned that he will carry to the next races.

QUOTES:
“Unfortunately, as expected, it was a difficult race stuck in traffic after a costly Saturday, with some details to polish in Quali and then the penalty. On a positive note I think the pace today was there, I was comfortable with the car, managed to do some good overtakes and overall learnt a lot out there on track. Now the focus is to carry the positive feeling of this weekend on to the next GP’s and build from here. Once I start putting everything together I know better results will come. On to Bahrain!".
