Set-up and pit-stop struggles for Carlos Sainz in the Belgian GP

Sunday, 27 July 2025
- Race: P18, 44 laps

  • Carlos Sainz missed the points in the Belgian GP, which was delayed by over an hour due to the rain. Nevertheless, the track dried up pretty fast after a rolling start behind the Safety-Car.
  • The Williams race driver started from fifteenth place, but chose to break the parc fermé to switch to a wet set-up for his car to try and regain ground. This forced him to start from the Pit Lane in seventeenth place.
  • The length of the red flag period impeded Carlos from maximising the potential of his set-up, because there was no more rain in the rest of the race.
  • Carlos was not lucky either with his pit stop, which took longer than usual due to some small issues and ongoing traffic in the pits.
  • Finally, Carlos had to pit for a second time, falling further down the order.

QUOTES:
“Following a costly set-up change yesterday before Qualifying, our starting position meant we had little to lose, so we took a gamble to start from the pit lane, changing the car to a wet configuration".

“Unfortunately, with the Red Flag during the worst of the weather, the race was dry, and it clearly didn’t work in our favour. We also had an issue with my pit stop, so it was a bit of a disappointing race all together. However, on the positive side, the Sprint was very strong and today the new package worked well on Alex’s car, so I look forward to next week".
