Carlos Sainz, sixth on the grid, heads to the Spanish GP with a positive attitude

Saturday, 22 June 2024
- Free Practice 3: P1, 1:13.013, 19 laps
- Qualifying: P6, 1:11.736, 12 laps

  • Carlos Sainz is set to start the Spanish GP from sixth place after a Qualifying session in which track temperatures decreased significantly, which prompted much quicker lap-times than those seen in practice.
  • The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:12.403) and Q2 (1:11.874) using a single set of Soft tyres in each session, meaning that for Q3 he had two brand-new sets available to him.
  • In Q3, though, other teams had a small edge on performance and this kept the Spanish driver away from the fight for pole position. Still, the grid was so tight that 35 milliseconds would have been enough to qualify third.
  • Carlos doesn’t give up anything ahead of his home Grand Prix and has confidence in his options. To seize them, he will count on the support of the fans attending the race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which yet again have responded in great numbers.

QUOTES:
"Not an easy Qualifying. I honestly think our laps were good, but we were clearly missing a little extra today to be further ahead. Tomorrow, however, I think we could have an open race. We need a smooth start and with good strategies we can climb some places and hopefully fight for a podium, which would be the perfect reward for all the tifosi that came here to support us. We will give our best!".
