Carlos Sainz, eleventh in a Monaco Qualifying that is not representative of his full potential

Saturday, 24 May 2024
- Free Practice 3: P8, 1:11.893, 24 laps
- Qualifying: P11, 1:11.362

  • Carlos Sainz will try to comeback in the Monaco GP from the eleventh place of the grid, after struggling to switch on his tyres in the key moment of Q2.
  • The Williams race driver made it through Q1 (1’11”707) without any issues and he started Q2 (1’11”362) on the Medium tyre, but when he switched to Softs for his final run, these didn’t offer the grip he anticipated and hence the Spaniard was not able to make the most of his car.
  • Carlos is confident that the singularity of this year’s Monaco GP, which has a mandatory second stop for the very first time, will help him recover ground despite the corners and narrowness of the track.

QUOTES:
“My weekend has been challenging from the beginning, never finding a sweet spot with the car. Despite that, I had enough pace to go into Q3 but for some reason the Soft tyre on our car felt a bit like a lottery and in Q2 we clearly didn’t switch it on, which meant we had no grip at all. It’s frustrating, but I think that tomorrow we might have an interesting race with the mandatory two-stops. We’ll try to make the most out of it".
