- Free Practice 3: P12, 1:35.662, 22 laps
- Qualifying: P3, 1:48.296, 24 laps
- Carlos Sainz was one of the biggest stars of the Qualifying session for the Las Vegas GP, which took place in a very slippery track due to the rain that fell throughout Q1. The track was wet the entire session after that.
- The Williams race driver made it through Q1 (1:54.873) on a full-wet tyre and in Q2 he used the same compound (1:51.144) to establish himself as the third fastest driver on track.
- In Q3, the track got better and Carlos ran on Intermediate tyres. He clinched provisional pole (1.48.296) with an early lap, but towards the end two cars beat his time.
- The Spaniard is massively determined for the race, although he is aware that faster cars than his will be starting behind him and that overtaking is easy in Las Vegas.
QUOTES:
“Very happy after one of the trickiest qualifying’s of the year! From my first lap today, I’ve felt at home with the car. Every time I was closing in on my lap we were at the top of the field and I was enjoying myself out there in these conditions. Despite opening my last attempt a bit early, I knew I had a shot at pole and for a moment I thought I had it! But two very quick cars behind me were able to improve and edge us out. Still, P3 is an amazing result for the team and we have to feel proud of the job done. Our target for tomorrow will be to remain in position, whilst being conscious we have some very quick cars behind us and it’s easy to overtake here. We’ll make ourselves as wide as possible and give it our all. Vamos!".
