Carlos Sainz narrowly misses pole position in Suzuka

Saturday, 8 October 2022
-    Free Practice 3: P2, 1:30.965, 27 laps
-    Qualifying: P3, 1:29.361, 13 laps

  • Carlos was just 57 milliseconds away from pole position and tomorrow he will start the Japanese GP from the third place of the grid.
  • The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:30.336) and Q2 (1:30.444) with a single set of Soft tyres, which was new in Q1 and used in Q2. This meant he had two brand new sets available for the last round plus another one for the race.
  • The Spaniard set his fastest lap of the weekend in Q3 (1:29.361). Tomorrow he will start from the second row of the grid in a Grand Prix that could take place under wet conditions.

QUOTES:
"It was a good lap, clean all the way until the last chicane where a snap exiting the last corner cost me quite a bit of laptime. Frustrating again, but we’ll keep pushing".

“In general, the car felt good today and I’ve been comfortable with the balance all weekend".

“Tomorrow we don’t know what the weather will be like, but we are aiming to get both cars again up there. We’ll give everything until the checkered flag!".

COMING UP:
