A great lap leaves Carlos Sainz just outside of Q2 in the Chinese GP

Saturday, 14 March 2026
- Sprint P12, 19 laps
- Qualifying: P17, 1:34.317, 10 laps

  • Carlos Sainz will race tomorrow in Shanghai from seventeenth place on the grid after an optimal Qualifying session in which he almost made it to Q2 despite the weaknesses of the FW48.
  • The Williams race driver, who had finished twelfth in the Sprint earlier in the day, feels he made the most of his car in the Qualifying session, even though he is lacking mileage due to several technical issues he has suffered so far this season.
  • The Spanish driver expects a challenging Grand Prix tomorrow, but he is hopeful he can continue his understanding of the car to help his team in their determination to make it more competitive in the upcoming months.

QUOTES:
“I’m really happy with my lap today. We’ve made strong progress this weekend and got the car into a better window for this session. I still feel like I’m a bit down on mileage to unlock more performance but I’ll take the positives as we maximised everything we could today. We are very far from where we want to be and tomorrow will still be a challenging race, but it’s another learning opportunity as we try to get the most out of this package and keep improving".
