- The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:34.970) on a single set of Soft tyres, but in his first flying lap of Q2 he touched the wall at a calculated angle to ensure that the damage to the car was as small as possible. In fact, he managed to get back into the pits and he clocked a 1:34.368 that enabled him to make it to Q3.
- In the last round, though, the Spaniard found the limits of his car, specially in Sector 1, and he was not able to improve as much as he expected, even though he has finished only eight thousandths of a second behind the other Ferrari on track.
- Before Qualifying, it was time for the Sprint, were Carlos started from fourth place and fought for the podium until a contact on track dropped him to the fifth place, which translates into four points for the World Championship.
QUOTES:
“This Qualifying session didn't go as well as we hoped, but even after the incident in the last corner we managed to keep it together and reacted positively right away".
“Overall it was a tough session for us, as we struggled a bit too much in Sector 1 and our total lap time wasn’t enough to fight for better positions. However I’m confident that in the race, with this set up, we will be faster than some of the rivals starting in front of us. We are up for an interesting race tomorrow where strategy will also play an important role”.
