Carlos Sainz faces an uphill race after misfortune in Q3

Saturday, 9 April 2022
-    Free Practice 3: P5, 1:19.419, 17 laps
-    Qualifying: P9, 1:19.408, 22 laps

  • Anomalous circumstances, first in the form of a red flag and afterwards with a delay when firing up the car, compromised Carlos’ Q3 in the Australian GP.
  • The Spaniard of Ferrari was aiming for provisional Pole on his first push lap, but he had to lift off because there was a red flag when he was about to cross the finish line.
  • In the second run, a delay in the pits when firing up the F1-75 left him with no time to complete a preparation lap that he needed to take his tyres to the right temperature.
  • Previously, Carlos had set the fourth fastest time in Q1 (1:18.983) and the second fastest in Q2 (1:18.469), showcasing just how good his pace truly was.

QUOTES:
“We had good pace today but my Q3 went completely wrong. We got the red flag right before the finish line of the first lap and in the second one I was about to go out but there was a delay in firing up my car. We finally got going but I didn’t have time to do the preparation lap, which meant the tyres were far from ready for the push lap, sliding everywhere. Tomorrow I’ll obviously try to recover as much as possible, but without the fourth DRS zone the circuit hasn’t changed that much from the old one and it will be tricky to overtake. Anyways, tomorrow is another day and we’ll try to come back".

COMING UP:
